Samtskhe-Javakheti is a region that never stops surprising visitors, from the mineral springs of Borjomi to the ancient cave city of Vardzia.This ancient land of cave cities and monasteries is always ready to open its doors to the outside world.


Day 1 - Tbilisi - Arrival Day
Upon arrival in Tbilisi you will be met by our  representative and will be taken to  your hotel room. After a short break, we will start our tour from Tbilisi.

  • The 4th century Narikala Fortress - An ancient citadel overlooking the capital and the Mtkvari river.
  • Metekhi Church (13th c.) The historical heart of the city, Metekhi is a must-see for any visitor of Tbilisi. King Vakhtang Gorgasali erected the first church here in the 5 th century.
  • Sioni - the cathedral of the 6th-7th cc; It is situated on historic Sioni street, in downtown Tbilisi.
  • Sulphur baths - a favorite place of Tbilisi citizens and foreign guests.
  • Sameba Cathedral -The main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
  • National  Museum - With numerous objects, the Georgian National Museum presents the wide scope of Georgian culture from all around the country.

Day 2-Tbilisi-Poka-Akhaltsikhe
After breakfast we will start our tour to the direction of Javakhti to visit Poka Monastery.

  • Poka Monastery is built in 11-th century. The Georgian nuns still continue their activity.The establishment of Poka Monastery is credited to St.Nino of Cappadocia who is said to have brought Christianity into Georgia.Here you will see Lake Paravani, then we will drive to
  • Khertvisi  fortress - built in the  IV century BC on the high rock at a confluence of the river Paravani and Mtkvari. It is one of the largest and well preserved fortresses of our country.

After lunch we will visit

  • Vardzia - the most popular place in the valley. Cave monastery complex built in second half of the XII century, during the reign of King George III and King Tamar. There are up to 300 caves distributed on eight levels. In main churches of Vardzia original frescoes of XII century are still preserved.
  • Tmogvi - In 630-660 AD Sargis Tmogveli, an honorable political figure and philosopher, worked and lived here. Tmogvi fortress later became one of the most important fortress-cities in Georgia, and is located on a rocky hill overlooking the Mtkvari river.
  • Vani Caverns -This noteworthy Georgian architectural and cultural monument consists of about 200 caves built into the rocky cliffs and rises over 16 levels.

Day 3-Akhaltsikhe
After breakfast we will continue our tour and will visit:

  • Zarzma Monastery . It is a complex of a series of buildings dominated by a domed church, belfry and several single vaulted chapels. Some of them are ruined. Monk cells and refectories have not survived. According to some sources, there was a tunnel leading to the river which is by now filled with boulders.
  • Rabati castle -Rare examples of Darbazi (traditional Georgian houses) cluster around the castle, which was built in the 12th century and houses a mosque from 1752 and the ruins of a medrese (Islamic school). The Rabati also has a synagogue, an Armenian church and a Catholic church, shops, restaurant, main tower, small pools, fountains and fantastic views for taking photos.
  • Saphara Monastery . It is one of the most interesting monuments of Georgian architecture, located just 15 kilometres South-East of Akhaltsikhe. The first records of Saphara date back to the 10th century and in the 13-14th centuries the monastery included 12 churches and chapels.
  • Abastumani - Here you  will have opportunity to see Galaxy via telescope.

After dinner dinner on the way to Tbilisi we will visit Green Monastery and in Borjomi you will have opportunity to drink well known Borjomi from natural spring and walk in the park.

Return to Tbilisi - End of the Tour

Our guide will be at your service till 8 p.m.

This is the end of the tour. Regarding your flight departure time, we will arrange your transfer to airport for your international flight back home.
